Hello to all viewing,
Where is the summer? Where is the sun?
Vintage Garden Table and Chairs ready, Stunning Edwardian Cane and Wicker chair for sun lounging and highly desirable and sought after Champagne Saucers are ready and in store.
We now have feature page links on Falcon Chairs, Stig Lindberg and Rorstrand which can be found on our About The Shop page.
We have also had some very good news from our best selling favoured artist Jan Dagley. Jan recently brought in a new collection of paintings which are stunning. From new Birch Tree Series paintings to new open scape bright paintings and mixed media collages. More later about Jan.
The strangest and rarest item is now on view and took some time to find out exactly what I had purchased. We are now in possession of a "Hippocamp" or "Hippocampus". A Greek Mythological Creature that pulled the charriot Poseidon rode on out of the sea. It is a half horse, half fish creature of which there is a statue in the Trevi Fountain in Rome.
Our version is a painted wooden figure believed to be a marrionette possibly used in a play version of Homers' Iliad? The buyer will also receive a 300-400 BC Greek coin with an impression of a Hippocamp on one side. An amazing lot on display in our window.
Our chairs have certainly captured the taste of our customers with many sold during the summer months. Some sold on the first day of being on display. Falcon chairs are still our No.1 seller and we now have an early Chrome leg version with a red cushion which looks stunning.
It looks like everyone is celebrating out there as we have seen Art Deco Champagne Glasses, Champagne Ice/Cooler Buckets and Stunning Cocktail Shakers sold.
Recent sales have been our extremely popular French Ceramic Polar Bears of which we could sell many if only we could source them. A large 1m long Ceramic Panther in bright cyan colour was sold within days of being displayed in the shop window. First come first buy comes to mind a lot in this shop.
Our Art selection has expanded with more French impressionist paintings, 18 century prints and more works from our favourite local artist Jan Dagley Purbeck Art Week....a great investment. More to come in May with a Special Feature on Jan's work.
Talking of investments...last year we brought the 1960's and 70's Norwegian Falcon Chair to Swanage and Dorset, and have been amazed by the response to these wonderful chairs. For those who have not sat in one, they are truely wonderful as you are suspended in a hammock like position on top of a leather seat. As there are no reproductions out there, they are becoming a much sought after chair and investment.
We have been able to find some amazing desk lamps during the summer, dating from as early as the 1950's. The 3 spring Anglepoise lamp in black and a truely stunning chromed version. The same with the Hilmer and Horstmann Counterbalance Lamps both in black and chrome which have become a big hit.
Though the star find so far has been a large Art Nouveau Tiffany style Lamp with a ceramic base and opaque beige glass petals, a true one off.
You can view the lamps under our Furniture section.
There are presently the most eclectic mix of paintings to be found anywhere in Dorset I believe. We have c18th Dutch school oils, 1960's cubist pastel works by William Black, beautiful portraits, charcoal etchings from Kate Shepherd, an enormous London map from the 1970's and of a new collection from Jan Dagley.
A recent purchase was a collection of gold layered paintings by an artist BEW who's work is a liitle different and you are encouraged to touch the painting!
Please look at our new window display item which features a rare and wonderful Cane and Wicker sun lounger chair with removeable arms and reclining back. A real find and extremely rare.
Perfect for the garden or conservatory.
We are now offering a bespoke service too, and will try and source requested unique and beautiful items for our customers as well as local deliveries.
